Synopsis[]
Lena has escaped to Moscow, where she has killed several CIA agents sent to kill her. Only partially recovered from her shooting, Annie identifies a musician there, Dmitri Larionov, as a retired spy with ties to Lena. Knowing she will go anyway, Joan sends Annie (against CIA policy) to photograph Lena and return, so that extradition can be negotiated. Annie meets Dmitri and gets his help in stopping Lena's car for the photograph, but instead walks into an ambush. The resulting incident derails the negotiations and embarrasses both Arthur and Joan, who offers Arthur her resignation. Annie learns that Dmitri has been seduced by Lena, who did not have her killed in the ambush because she wants to meet with her. In a confrontation at an isolated dacha, Lena tries to convince Annie to become a double agent. When this fails, she attempts to distract Annie and pulls a hidden gun on her, Annie shoots Lena in self defense, ending her life and avenging Simon.
Full Recap[]
- Annie, scarred, dresses up in cat burglar garb. She breaks into a house, cutting a security seal, and plays a single note on the piano several times. When a tactical team comes to stop her, she asks to talk to Joan Campbell.
- She explains to the Campbells that Lena knows a man known as Rachmaninov (a concert musician and murderer known for pianowire garrotes) who is now in Russia. However, Joan explains that he is dangerous, as well as that while attempting to euphemistically "bring [Lena] to Justice" ("--kill her." Arthur abruptly states), Lena has killed a number of expert agents in Russia. They restate that they are pursuing diplomatic channels and refuse to send Annie in.
- Lena officially claims credit for Jai Wilcox's death, telling Annie that she hired a man named Leo Brewer to place the bomb in his car, preventing him from telling Annie about the identity of the FSB double agent working at the CIA, Lena Smith. Up until this, it was still unknown who had ordered the hit on Jai, though many speculations had been made.
Annie, under the alias Pinja Stanis, visits Moscow. She visits her apartment, then goes to Dimitry, who is dissatisfied with her playing. Afterwards, she visits the cafe where Zarya Fischer works, noticing Simon's Ursa Minor sign in the cup. The next day Dimitry tails Annie, explaining that she gave herself away because she can't play the piano left-handed properly, as Annie is right-handed so she plays the piano as a righty. Dimitri decides to tell her how he me Lena and how she made him fall in love with her. Stationed with the CIA Nairobi, she pretended to love him, but she was actually already working for the FSB and sold him out in order to advance her CIA cover and successfully progressed as a double agent. Effectively becoming one of the best double agents that had ever worked for the FSB, even going so far as holding a prime position within the CIA for years.

Trivia[]
- The train shown as Annie leaves Helsinki for Moscow bears the logo of a French TGV. Such trains rarely leave France and its neighbouring countries; trains to Russia are operated by RZhD or the Russian Railway Company. While the station name "Leningradskiy" is correct for a western train, the station's platforms are largely open air and visited by Sapsan high speed trains.
